A winning concert week

Wednesday, October 6

Last week I won tickets to see Plain White T's at the Aloft Hotel near the Portland Airport.  It was a promotion for Live in the Vineyard, which is of course in California.  The concert was short, but only a few people were there since is was on an outdoor patio at the hotel, so that was pretty cool.   We got VIP badges and tickets with numbers.  Mine was the first number picked to "meet and greet" the band after the concert.    So, what are  you supposed to do when you meet someone famous?    I just said thanks and then we had our photo taken by a photographer hired by 105.1 The Buzz radio station.    I least it turned out pretty well.

The last time I met someone famous, I handed my camera to the person next to me  and even though I thought I had it set up perfectly - the photo turned out horrible.  Next time I'll change it to the auto setting!
Now, jump ahead a few day to last Sunday night.  Unfortunately this concert was not free, but I've been wanted to see Jack Johnson since I missed his last concert in my area over two years ago.  My Aunt Cindy is a big fan too, so we got our tickets the day they went on sale, several months ago.  I think the last big concert I went to was Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young over 10 years ago.

We got to sit about 20 rows back, just off to the side, so we stayed warm under the roof even though half the amphitheater is uncovered.   I took several photos, but this is the best shot I got.  Jack sure did himself a favor by doing the soundtrack for the Curious George movie.   I wonder how many moms discovered his music that way.   Have you seen his music video where he gets in a bar fight - funny stuff!  Well, I didn't get to have my picture taken with Jack, but I still had a great time.

I had to change the name of the post to prevent spam!

Captain Hook, I mean Kevin took the girls and a friend to the pirate festival on Saturday.  Usually I love to join them, dress up and take lots of pictures, but I was busy recuperating from a cold.   He left his hook (that's just an umbrella he's holding) and the black wig at home.   Good thing too, since they got rained on several times during the afternoon.
This pirate was getting feisty so I made her walk the plank!
The girls had a great time, got to hold a parrot, brought home some loot and got tattoos multiple times since they weren't waterproof.
Thanks Captain - you're awesome!

In The Name of Science

Friday, July 31

Yesterday we went on a field trip with Kevin's summer research students to Multnomah Falls.

We had some good views of the Columbia River Gorge on the way up.
It was a pretty hot day to hike to the top, but we cooled our feet off when we got there.
Kyla charged up the hill and went even faster on the way down.Sydney made it 3/4 of the way before getting a shoulder ride from dad. But she lead the way down so she could be the first one to the ice cream stand.

A short break part way down.
It all had to be done in the name of science.

You Capture - Family

Wednesday, May 27

This weeks photo challenge was family. I apologize in advance for another spider picture, but check out this family. I don't know why I keep taking pictures of spiders, there seem to be a lot of them around right now.
And here is what happens when their web is accidentally disturbed. Poor little guys! I checked on them today and they had all disappeared.
OK, now on to my real family. I just didn't have time to get any creative family shots, but we took the girls to the playground to practice their bike riding skills. We really try to ride our bikes more than drive during the summer. After one short session, my oldest is feeling much more confident on her new bike and the little one learned to ride without training wheels. It took us a whole five minutes to get tired of running, finally we just let go. Sorry I just didn't make it into the picture. Here's dad showing daughter just how easy it is. This shot is a little blurry, but doesn't he look so cute? I think his quote was, "This better not end up on the blog!"

Happy Birthday Kevin!

Sunday, April 5

Now that you have added the family blog to your Google Reader I know you'll see this message shortly after you check your email today. Hopefully it will make up for the fact that I didn't buy or make you a card. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEVIN (aka Dad, aka Honey, in fact he rarely gets called by his real name around here). It's your last year to celebrate that you're still thirty-something and you may rather be wandering around the Alhambra
or day dreaming on some Greek island...
but thankfully you've done those things already. So I ordered up some warm sunny weather just for you. It's you're day! You can go for a long bike ride or just play some boardgames. The girls have been instructed to respond to any requests by saying, yes Master. We will do our best to help you have a great day. You're the best husband/dad a family could have. We love you!
