You Capture - Green

We are going green by making reusable sandwich bags.  I found some cute fabric.

  
My 7 yo says she is going green by using rocks and string to make dolls.  FYI, rock are too heavy to stay on a stick when adhered using a glue gun.  We are now on a search for lighter heads.  

I found a lot of green leaves on a sunny walk today.

Snow day = sew day

Last week we had our first and probably last snow day for this winter.  Kyla decided she had to have a messenger bag.  Well, I wasn't just going to drive to the store and buy her one, but I remembered that we had cut out fabric for one months ago.  We dug it out of the closet and Sydney found some old quilting fabric and we made messenger bags with this awesome free pattern from mmmcrafts.

Kyla is 9!

Tuesday, March 30

Someone is very excited about turning 9 today.  She wanted to be awake for the actual time of her birth, 3:15am.  I told her that was unreasonable.  Well she woke up at 3:02 and tried to stay awake, but she closed her eyes and went right back to sleep.  Too funny !

She has already done a lot of celebrating with a slumber party last weekend and a swim party on Sunday.  It has also become a tradition that we have dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory.  I'm always happy to have a good excuse to eat there.  (Mmmm, warm bread and creamy pesto salad dressing and of course pasta).

   

Last week Kyla worked on a new costume.  She has been wanting to make these feather gauntlets for about two years now. 

Not sure why it took us so long get all the necessary items together.  Then she made a matching headband and I only had to assist with the glue gun.

You Capture - Friends

Summer is a great time for capturing friends, especially for kids. This summer has been one play date after another. Here's two friends stopping to talk while enjoying live music at the farm.

Sewing club

This summer Kyla and I are having a sewing club with three of her friends from school. Kyla had this idea before the end of the school year and actually interviewed several friends, making sure that each one in the club had sewing experience or was really interested in learning to sew.
When she first asked me about it, I automatically replied - maybe. Then I got to thinking how it would actually be fun spending quality time together sewing and that I should take advantage of the fact that she wanted to hang out with me.

I wasn't really prepared for our first meeting, but I knew that if I waited until I was ready that the summer would be over and ooops, no sewing club. All the girls were very excited and for the first meeting we just practiced sewing straight lines, learning how to thread and work the machines. I actually still remember some of the techniques and projects I worked on when I was in 4-H sewing with my aunt when I was in grade/middle school. Then a friend told me about the free and easy Lazy Days Skirt Pattern from oliver + s. Here is Sydney modeling hers.

So the next week we all worked on skirts. I never got around to taking pics while the girls were sewing because we were too busy. The girls took a lunch break and then the whole thing turned into a big play date.

One person actually finished their skirt before going home and Kyla finished hers a couple days later.

She is so proud and loves her new comfy skirt.

Luckily another mom is going to help out next time. I'm just not organized enough to help four girls at once, but I'm glad everyone is having fun!
