Rule of Thirds

Wednesday, 18Jan2012

I was thinking I should use some great photo for the Rule of Thirds assignment, but I got tired of looking decided to use something recent and amusing.

Here is the before.  I wasn't really thinking about composition, but concentrating on focusing the "eyes" and how my new flash was working.

Here is the after.  I put her "eyes" on the top horizontal third, the right eye on the right vertical third and the space on the left takes up about a third.

OK, if anyone can guess what these the "eyes" are, I'll send you a free note card of  your choice.
Hint: The two halves used to be one.

Let's pretend it's 2 weeks ago...

so I can say Happy New Year!  I really dropped off the blogosphere last summer and only posted a couple of times.   The fall was super busy with Sydney in Soccer, Kyla doing cross country and both girls at Kung-Fu twice a week.  Then I ended up doing a lot of photos for other people along with putting some of my work in local shops.  It has been fun, but kept me busy.

One project I got to work on with another photographer and mom was a photo booth for the holiday bazaar at our school. It was fun to try out the studio setting with professional lighting.  I made the family take two minutes out of their lives without getting dressed up or even fixing hair to get a family photo and well, here we are.

Thanks Brenna King for all your expertise, equipment and time!

We've been having beautiful sunrises all week it seems.  I always wish I had something better to silhouette than power lines..

so this morning I found a model.

Merry Christmas 2011

Saturday, December 24

The cookies are made and set out for Santa.  Poor Sydney has a terrible cough and finally fell asleep about 30 minutes ago.   Santa is going to have to work fast in order to get some sleep tonight.   Hopefully they will sleep until 8am.  Here are some photos I took at church last week.  Kyla was a wise woman and Sydney was a beautiful Mary.

Merry Christmas!!

I entered a few photos into the Oregon Cultural Trust  "This is Culture" photo contest and this one made it to the finals.   So this is my last ditch effort to get more votes.  If you are on Facebook  please click here to vote!  The voting ends Friday at midnight, Pacific time.  Thanks!!

Yellow Leaves

Wednesday, November 17

This one rarely poses for me and she only did this for about 2 minutes so I would stop bugging her.  So glad I had  my camera after school yesterday because today is nasty outside.  She love this "new" coat or poncho or whatever you call it.   She kind of reminds me of Fleur Delacour from Harry Potter.

Halloween 2011

Tuesday, November 1

We didn't get photos done early this year and I never even got a good one of Kyla, maybe she'll pose for me this week.  She not a very willing subject sometimes.

In case you're wondering, Kyla is a ranger, but it's hard to tell without her weapons, which she was not allowed to bring to school.

I also didn't get a chance to photograph Kevin's wizard costume (which I finished sewing right before dinner), but he still needs a beard.  I guess we have a whole year to shop for that.
